Communities
that hold.

Berog is a community strategy and operations firm in Accra. We design how organisations engage the communities they answer to — members, learners, stakeholders — and build the systems that keep it running after the launch budget is spent.

Working with member organisations, funders, corporates and programmes across West Africa.

Most communities are launched.
Very few are operated.

We work on the unglamorous half: the research, the operating rhythm, the standards, the measurement and the staffing that decide whether a community is still useful in year three.

Strategy

A clear purpose tied to organisational outcomes.

Grounded in what your community actually does, not what the plan assumes.

Written so a board and a moderator read it the same way.

Operations

Rituals, roles and standards that run weekly.

Built for the team you actually have.

Evidence

A baseline, then quarterly measurement against it.

Numbers your finance team will accept.

The problem

Engagement is easy to buy
and hard to keep

A launch fills a WhatsApp group, a Slack workspace or a members' portal within a week. Six months later the same space is quiet, the moderator has moved teams, and nobody can say what the community produced.

The failure is rarely the platform or the content calendar. It is that no one designed the operating system: who does what, on what rhythm, to which standard, measured how.

Step one

Find out what's
actually happening

Not what the org chart claims. We interview the people running it and the people in it, map how engagement really works today, and produce a written diagnosis your leadership can act on.

  • - Stakeholder and member research
  • - Landscape scans and ecosystem mapping
  • - Interviews, surveys and participatory consultation
  • - A written diagnosis with prioritised recommendations

Step two

Design the operating
system

Purpose, rituals, roles, standards, tooling and the measurement frame that proves it works — designed with the team who will run it, and sized to the capacity that exists rather than the capacity you wish you had.

  • - Community purpose and governance
  • - Rituals, roles and moderation standards
  • - Tooling and workflow design
  • - The measurement frame and its baseline

Step three

Run it, measure it,
then hand it over

We work inside your team through the first operating cycles, then transfer the system with documentation your staff can run without us.

  • - Embedded delivery for one to two quarters
  • - Quarterly measurement against baseline
  • - Team coaching and handover documentation
  • - An exit plan agreed on day one

Learners served by a community function built from nothing

150+

Scholars funded across 15+ African countries

2,000+

Learners on a single reporting pipeline

96%

Programme completion, sustained across three years

Berog is new. The work isn't. These engagements were led by our consultants before the firm was formed — at ALX Africa, Ashesi University, Academic City, NYU Accra and Dretek Innovations.

Team

Two practitioners,
no account layer

No juniors learning on your programme, no handoff to a delivery team you haven't met. The two people on this page do the work.

Systems, Data & Learning

Builds the reporting and operations infrastructure organisations rely on to see themselves clearly. At ALX Ghana, replaced scattered country-level spreadsheets with a single reporting pipeline serving 2,000+ learners. Delivers production systems to external clients across multiple sectors and markets through Dretek Innovations.

A fair objection

“We already have a community manager.”

Good — most of our best engagements start there. A capable manager without a defined operating system spends the year firefighting and cannot show leadership what changed.

We build the system around your manager and then leave. If the honest answer is that you need a hire rather than a consultancy, we will say so in the first conversation.

“You're new.”

We are. The work isn't. The engagements behind this firm — community functions built from scratch, donor-funded programmes administered, learner and stakeholder systems designed and run — were done before, separately, inside organisations you may know.

If you'd like to speak to someone who has worked with either of us, ask. We'll make the introduction.
